Mission and History
Our Mission
Citizens for Election Integrity Minnesota (CEIMN) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that advocates for verifiable, transparent, and accurate elections in Minnesota and across the country. We seek to improve our democracy by:
- Promoting effective post-election audits and recounts that are based on the manual counting of voter verified paper ballots
- Educating others by developing best practices, model legislation and databases of state laws
- Encouraging citizen participation in the election process
- Partnering with other election-integrity groups to maximize our impact
- Promoting the accurate recording, counting, and reporting of all votes properly cast
- Public oversight of our voting systems and infrastructure.
Our History
CEIMN was formed shortly after the 2004 election after learning of reports in Ohio of electronic voting problems, the disenfranchisement of minority voters, discarded ballots, and other voting irregularities. Our first activity was the observation of the Ohio presidential recount. Since 2004 we have:
- Organized ten statewide nonpartisan observations of post-election audits and recounts in Minnesota
- Created a state audit laws searchable database
- Created the award-winning state recount laws searchable database
- Convened a group of experts to write and publish Recount Principles and Best Practices
- Worked with election officials to improve Minnesota’s audit and recount laws
- Promoted post-election audits across the United States
- Initiated and participated in the creation of Principles and Best Practices for Post-Election Audits
- Co-authored a report, Minnesota’s Elections — Transparent, Verifiable, and Accurate, to refute erroneous claims from the Center for the American Experiment
- Co-authored a report, Facts About Ineligible Voting and Voter Fraud in Minnesota, based on data from Minnesota County Attorneys, that determined that a photo ID requirement will not improve the integrity of Minnesota's elections
- Hosted and helped organize the first national Audit Summit (2007).
